†  Romans 8:29-30 (NASB): "For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified."

One might easily conclude that glorification is simply the end state of sanctification; that is, eventually being 100% consumed by the Holy Spirit.

It's unlikely, though, that any believer would achieve 100% perfection--that is, be 100% Christ-like--in their earthly bodies because of human tendency to sin.

To realize its true splendor and purpose, glorification should be examined and contemplated completely apart from sanctification.

Phillipians 3:20-21 suggests that the "glorious" body God has reserved for us at Christ's second coming will be inconceivably splendid and distinct from our "humble" earthly body.

†  "But our citizenship is in heaven--and we also eagerly await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform these humble bodies of ours into the likeness of his glorious body by means of that power by which he is able to subject all things to himself."

John 8:54 reveals that the true purpose of our "glorified" bodies is to reveal God's glory, not our own.

†  "Jesus answered, 'If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, He is our God'."

Romans 8:29-30 supplies both timetable and timeless perspective for glorification as a post-sanctification beginning to a future "lifecycle" in God's eternal kingdom.

†  "For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified."

Given the biblical, historical, and doctrinal context, we can define glorification as a believer's ultimate state, fully reflective of God's glory.
